I’m as excited to share this make by Jill from Kneesocks and Goldilocks as little June is to wear it!!
The Maker!
I’ve been following Jill’s sewing journey for a couple of years and her dreamy pictures draw me in every single time!
Jill sews for herself and her beautiful kids. The garments she makes are modern with lovely clean lines. And they feel beautifully timeless all at once.
Jill’s warmth exudes from her. She constantly inspires, not only with her sewing, but also the way she celebrates and lifts up other sewists, all while being a mum of four and working as an obstetrician/gynecologist.
If you want to know even more of her non-sewing story. Poppy Barley (who make beautiful, ethically made shoes) did a great interview with her as part of their Raise Her Up series on insipiring women.
What she made.
Jill chose the Banana Stand Pink fabric and made the super sweet Cascade maxi by Chalk and Notch for her little girl June. And yes, a cute little matching scrunchy too!
This is a tried and tested pattern for Jill. It is a quick and satisfying sew. An elastic back makes it easy to fit and allows for some ease as little ones grow. The bias cut and high-low hem make for a beauitful flowy shape – perfect for exploring fields, picking flowers or imagining you are the tiniest, neon, pop princess around!
Jill is also a master of Mummy and mMe makes – if you want to see her take twinning to the next level, be sure to follow her on Instagram.
The fabric!
The Banana Stand Pink fabric is a drapey dream match for this pattern. It is a lightweight polyester with a beautiful crepe hand and is SO good to work with.
Designed by Manri Kishimoto of Mannine, who loves everything colour, quirky and interesting. While all of her fabrics are light hearted and fun, they come from a deep design process and each has a story behind it.
Banana Stand Pink is from her ‘Lesson’ collection. Robaudo the Donkey is one of the characters that feature in this collection, he is taking art classes and snacks on banana’s during his breaks. Hence this gorgeous layered print was born!
Are you feeling inspired? If you want to make one of these divine Cascade Maxi’s, or any other pattern from Chalk and Notch – you’re in luck!
